Still Traveling Cheap

Filed under: General — Joel @ 12:34 am

This week I am again on the road, this time in Wisconsin. With a trip to Wal-Mart, I have spent $58 for two weeks of food. I have followed Trish’s advice and diversified my selections, adding many healthy selections including fruits and vegetables.

I am looking forward to traveling back to Oklahoma later this month and starting a second job again. The last couple of months have been stressful trying to sort out the short term and long term employment issues. Thankfully, I now have a mobilization order for November, and I have orders that have me working at the unit up until the mobilization order kicks in. Once I finish this school here in Wisconsin, I should begin a regular routine of 16 hour days in Oklahoma, with weekends back home in Missouri. The Army pays for the travel which gives me a real opportunity to make some serious progress.

Mapgirl has been doing some traveling lately as well. I am looking forward to hearing some of her money saving tips that she has promised!

  2. Joel - Today I finished reading your entire blog & I wanted to tell you how inspiring it is. Thank you for sharing your journey. Thank you for not being ashamed of your debt & taking this journey in private. I have no doubt the sharing of your story will inspire many others as it has me.

This morning I ordered Dave Ramsey’s starter kit. My husband & I are both excited to begin on the path towards a debt free life. I have already been through a bankruptcy with my first husband & swore I would never be under debt again. I would not make those mistakes again & would not let someone drag me down that road again. I’ve kept that promise, rebuilt my credit & over the past year have finally been approved for credit cards. I used the cards, kept low or no balances, being “smart” about it all. How ironic that I’ve finally reached that point, a milestone for me, yet am about to cancel those cards to live debt free & gain financial independence. I honestly don’t know if I would have ever taken that step if I had not read your blog. I’ve had friends recommend Dave Ramsey’s way, the debt snowball, zero balance budget. But it was all rather vague until I read your blog. Thank you again for sharing!

I look forward to reading more of your journey.
