A New Addiction

Filed under: General — Joel @ 10:26 pm

With tourism in western Wisconsin as it is, along with our current budget situation, I have spent the entire weekend in my room at my computer. My new addiction is the subscription portion of Dave’s web site, My Total Money Makeover. I signed up for the free seven day trial, and have barely logged out since then.

I am having quite the delimma now. Should I pay the $8.95 per month to keep it? The advice is worth far more, but I owe a lot of people a lot of money. It is only the cost of a pizza, but I wouldn’t buy the pizza either. So what to do…less than 48 hours to decide.

**Update** You should follow the link above or click here and try it for free for seven days. It is awesome!

  1. I am also a TMMO subscriber, but, as a Financial Peace University facilitator, my annual subscription costs me nothing.

Dude, you are awesome! With your integrity surrounding money, and life in general, you should run for public office.

Keep the TMMO, in my opinion. It’s been the lifeblood of my own money transformation.

    Best wishes/God bless!

  2. Joel, the TMMO (Total Money Makeover) forum has been a lifesaver for me as well. I’m still learning new things, and I have been a paid member since January 06. I’m so glad to see you’ve “drank the coolaid”, and joined us on the road to debt freedom. Take care.

  3. Joel,

We have a pretty great community going at llnoe.com, or livinglikenooneelse.com and we are all a bunch of Dave Junkies too.

We are a much smaller community than mytmmo, but the price of admission is free. :)

Drop by and say howdy if nothing else.

I post there the same as I do on MyTMMO: SharkUSMC

  4. I vote for staying, and I will drop over and say hi at the other communities as well.

As for staying at My Total Money Makeover, Amy’s vote will be the only one that counts there!

  5. What envelope are you planning on getting the subscription money out of?

  6. Blow, of course!

  7. Would that be the currently shared blow fund or out of separate his and her envelopes?

  8. Keep it. I’d be lost without it. In fact, the only reason I found your blog was from the community forums.

I use the budget tracker (plus our own on Excel), their debt snowball (backed up by Excel) and read the community daily. Great advice is always to be found and when things get tough, someone will make a post that lifts your spirits so you can get through another day of bologna sandwiches (I HATE bologna btw).

Yes, it’s $8.95 which could go to pay debts (or $89/yr if paid in full). Do the math, will spending an additional $8.95/mnth or a onetime payment of $89, make a difference in your debt snowball? When I ran the numbers, it changed nothing.

I initially had nothing in recreation in our budget. Now, I have $8.95/mnth and you guessed it, for MTMM. I probably should put that money into the education side of the budget since I’ve learned so much from the site.
