Lincoln on Leadership: Executive Strategies for Tough Times

While time is something I am certainly short of, I did find enough?of it?recently to finish this book. Thank God for airplanes; if not for them, I wouldn’t get any reading done.

The introduction of this book started out rather cheesy, and I was worried it would follow that course for the whole book; however, I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the first chapter. This book is a must read for anyone in leadership.

Lincoln’s hard work, honesty, and openness to the public?are just amazing, and something we can all learn from. He allowed anyone that came to the White House to see him, yet so many of us don’t even return phone calls and emails. I think we can all learn something from Abraham Lincoln and this book. Enjoy!

Happy No Year

Filed under: General — Joel @ 9:44 pm

“Happy no year,” has become our phrase of the week here since our return from Christmas Leave. Since the entire year will be spent away from family, that is a very appropriate motto for us to adopt.

On the same theme of this being a new year, it marks the one year anniversary of our Total Money Makeover, and what a makeover it has been. In twelve months we have paid off over one third of our total debt; that is over $185,000. In that same time we have paid off 31 creditors, and are now left with only 22. Who knows, maybe our four year plan to debt freedom will turn into three years.

Back on the no year that I find myself in; it is also the first year of my adult life that I will have no car payment for the entire year. I sold my truck this week and will never make another car payment for the rest of my life.

It is also a no excuses year. With no expenses from me because of my deployment (Army pays for absolutely everything, and pays me too) and Amy now beginning her Army career as an Officer; there will be no deviation this year from our plan. I hope you take this opportunity as we kick off 2007 to make this a no year for you as well. Happy no year!
