Today ended up being a really good day. After setting a record for the amount of mail pushed in one day yesterday I also found out we will be able to start getting one day off every two weeks. Right after complaining about not getting any time off, I got to make a plan to get us all a day off.
Tonight at our staff meeting they wanted me to bring my NCOIC (Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge) with me. He is my right hand man and the one that ensures everything I want to happen occurs. This was a little abnormal, so I sensed something was up. Upon starting our meeting, my senses were proven right. LTC Kaiser called me and SSG Most up and presented us both with the Army Achievement Medal for setting the record on the previous day.
Since I have kept everything a secret to this point, I will tell you a little bit about my job and why it is so secret. I am over the Mail Movement Team. We take mail that comes into Bagram and get it to all the FOBs (Forward Operating Base). I spend my days finding out everything that is flying and what space is available on it for mail. I then politic and make deals to get all the mail out I possibly can. I have some air assets that are set aside just for mail, but I need more than that to really do a good job. Everything to do with aviation is secret as far as routes and times and such, and since I need visibility of all that to do my job, that is why I get to have this really cool, and yet secret office (the stuff inside the office is secret, not the fact that the office exists).
Getting awards this early in a tour is rare, so I hope it is an omen of things to come.

Way to go…
