A New Car

Filed under: Debt — Joel @ 9:41 pm

Thanks to my mom and my brother David, Amy is now driving a new car. It isn’t brand new, but we did a title for title trade for a car that my mom bought new ten years ago. It has been well taken care of and is far more dependable than our 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix has proven. It is worth only $300 more than our Grand Prix, so I don’t feel too guilty about the transaction; however, I am very grateful for it.

David, who is an over the road truck driver, had used this car about two to three days every six weeks when he would return to the Stevens Transport headquarters in Dallas. With that little use, the Pontiac will work fine for him. He has a new truck that he keeps at his home in Georgia, so he isn’t giving up his only nice ride.

My mom still owned the car, and after talking to David she offered the trade as a solution to our problems. I feel much better about our vehicle situation back home, which gives me one less thing to worry about while I’m over here. Thanks mom, and thanks David!

  2. Joel, You are on my blogroll from Dave Ramsey’s website and I thought I’d check you out. Your blog is awesome. We, too, have a ton of debt (not as much as you, but I think we are #2!!!) and are working Dave Ramsey. I was really captivated by your blog–I’m surprised we’ve never crossed paths! I’m from Chattanooga, my husband and I have lived in St. Louis for 5 years, and some of our dear friends went to Evangel. Isn’t that cool.

Your story is incredible and you are an inspiration and blessing in ways you probably do not even realize. Thank you!

  4. Thanks Stephanie, that is awesome to hear! Sometimes it takes that mountain of debt to really get you motivated to do something about it. It sure has me motivated!

David, thanks again and thanks for spending time with the kids. I’m sure they loved it.

  5. It’s great to see that your family could help you out. I have been reading through your blog and I feel confident that if I really concentrate, I can get rid of my debt also.

I LOVE the Dave Ramsey method of snowballing your way out of debt. It just makes so much sense when you really think about it.
