Dear Joel,
Thank you to you and your family for your service to our country. We pray for the military all the time, both as a family and at our church and school. We are so grateful and supportive of this noble cause.
We are nearly certain you are the same 1 Lt. Joel Maxwell that our son, Joseph, wrote to last week. We received your name(from a website to support our military via correspondence) and he wrote that letter the same day. He is eager to know who you are and where you are and all about your life. He is the son of ours that we see becoming a soldier one day. Just know that a young boy you’ve never met over here is really cheering-and praying-you on. So are we.
We plan on showing Joey this website and your pictures which he will think are so amazing. If you are interested in writing him and prefer email, that would be terrific. We do understand that you have many other pressing obligations, too, though.
A little about us; my husband Joe and I will celebrate 18 years of wedded bliss next month =0). Though both from Hawaii(in fact, I spent several years teaching at a school on Pearl Harbor/ Hickam Air Force Base)we now make our home in Michigan with our four children. Paul(13), Joey(11), Molly(8) and Mark(5). We spent last weekend at an air show in which the Blue Angels were the highlight. We, and the 10,000 or so other spectators, loved the whole show. Based on this, American patriotism is alive and well.
We send many prayers for protection and blessing you way, as well as to your family back home.

Wow, I am amazed that you found me! I received his letter a couple of days ago and sent a response the same day. Not sure how long it takes letter mail to make it. How did you happen upon my blog? I put the address in my return letter and emphasized if your parents let you look at the web.
I keep everything straight forward and honest here, so I hope he isn’t wanting to just read positive accounts from Soldiers. I’m not a negative person either, but I do say how I personally feel a lot. You probably have noticed that if you have read much of it here.
Thanks for thinking of us and raising your kids right! We always appreciate thoughts and prayers from back home.
