I was saddened to learn this evening that Greene County Deputy Gary McCormack was killed while responding to an accident this morning. I never worked with Gary at the Sheriff’s Department, but I worked with him often when he was at the Republic Police Department. Like so many serving in law enforcement and the military, he leaves behind his wife and two young children. I know Sheriff Merritt’s tears are real, and there is no better person than Jack to make sure the family is taken care of. The story is here.
I just returned from yet another fallen comrade ceremony. Tonight was for a Soldier killed in a Suicide bombing in Kabul. Two other Soldiers were seriously injured, so please continue to pray for them. That brings the total to 65 killed that have come through Bagram since I have been here; of which I have personally known 6.
This next week historically has a spike in violence as we are heading out of Ramadan. The 12th of October may be the most dangerous day here; it is what they call the night of power, so please continue to pray for us and for winter to fully set in.

So sorry, Joel. Please let me know if you hear when the funeral is. I want to attend.

So sad - I’m sorry, Joel. How telling that Deputy McCormack was on his way to help others.
And very sorry to know of the loss of another soldier in your AO. Take care of yourself.

I went to the funeral. There is video on KY3’s web site. It was an impressive, touching service.
Wish you could have been there with me.
