I want to say Happy Mothers’ Day to my wife Amy and my mom as well!
In honor of this mothers’ day I submitted the following to the Wind FM:
I would like to take this opportunity to nominate my wife, Amy Maxwell, for the My Family Makeover: Mom Edition. During the past 15 months she has overcome several obstacles; obstacles that individually would have sunk an average mom, and collectively might be thought impossible.
Since December of 2005 she has been dealing with the financial fallout from our failed restaurant. Without filing bankruptcy, and working with each and every creditor she has been instrumental in eliminating close to half of our half a million dollars in debt.
Simultaneously, feeling God’s call to the military chaplaincy she has attended AGTS full time maintaining a grueling schedule in pursuit of her Masters in Divinity. She has also spent six weeks on active duty training at Chaplain Officer Basic Course in Ft. Jackson, SC.
All the while, with remarkable clarity and understanding, Amy has taught Jeremiah (7) and Sarah (5) all about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit; prayer and communion. She has established routines involving the kids praying and even taught Jeremiah to read a “grown up” Bible on his own. Our kids have a clear understanding of what it is to have a relationship with Jesus, and that is all because of Amy.
What makes all of this remarkable is the fact that I spent the last fifteen months deployed to Afghanistan with the Army Reserve. She accomplished all these things virtually as a single mother; many times worried for my safety when I had told her I would be out on a missionĀ but was days late reporting back in to her. She always drove on, fearing the worst but praying for the best.
This mothers’ day was supposed to be special for us; however, for the third year in a row the Army will have us separated. Early Saturday morning I have to fly to Camp Parks, California for more required training with the Army. She will again act as a single mother ensuringĀ our kids are in church on time, with no Daddy to do the dishes after her mothers’ day lunch. She is the most incredible mom I know, and I am in love with her more than ever before!

Thanks! I love you. Miss you!
