Day 1

Filed under: Business, Debt — Joel @ 11:45 pm

Today a new journey began. With 17 students in two classes, Professional Law Enforcement is off the ground. Having a break even point of 5, I’m relatively pleased with the day. Additionally, I gained several leads on contracting.

I am still looking forward to the opportunity to focus on marketing next week along with adding 8 weeks of training to my calendar. I will also be developing additional lesson plans and training topics in the coming weeks.

With much work ahead I feel good tonight knowing I’m on the right track. Stay tuned!

Advertising

Filed under: Debt — Joel @ 12:23 am

With the uncertainty of my business income, particularly in the coming weeks, everything is on the table for money. We started putting cash aside from our grocery fund…in case we need money to eat later. We are having a garage sale next Saturday, and I am considering advertising on my blog to make money.

For over two years the only money making mechanism on this site is the link to Dave’s book through Amazon. If you click the book and then buy anything from Amazon within 24 hours I get a percentage of the money. That has brought in somewhere between $30 and $60 each month. I am really uncertain as to how much adsense could bring in. I consistently have between 600 and 800 unique visitors per week…even while I haven’t been writing much lately. If you have any experience with adsense, please let me know!

A quick update on the business, it seems to be going very well. I have close to $2,000 in accounts receivable, and about 1/3 of my registrations for next week paid. I have two agencies contracted (one signed, one pending) and I am yet to begin marketing beyond direct mailing. I have six classes scheduled for the upcoming week followed by three weeks of nothing. The three weeks worry me, but are totally necessary. It is set aside to market the contracting side. After that I am rolling out another 8 weeks of training that will get me to October and into every major geographical area of Missouri.

I have a lot of work ahead along with many unknowns; however, I feel confident…uneasy, but confident. I would certainly sleep better if everything was guaranteed, but nothing in life is for sure, especially business!

Sarah Steelman for Missouri Governor

Filed under: Politics — Joel @ 12:38 am

On August 5th I will be casting my vote in the Missouri Republican Primary for Sarah Steelman for governor. The Wall Street Journal kindly outlined many of my reasons for choosing her. Read their article here.

The time has come to eliminate the Abramoff Republicans and reclaim our party!

More in Afghanistan

Filed under: Mil Blog — Joel @ 11:27 pm

The military has launched an investigation to determine if the Soldiers on the ground Sunday were not given intelligence about the imminent attack although the intelligence existed. Read this story. They keep mentioning that it was in an area that borders Pakistan which is true…the Kunar province does border Pakistan; however, this and much of the action in the east is taking place about 20 to 30 kilometers from Pakistan.

I am glad to finally see Afghanistan getting the attention…long overdue!
